He finally made it through a gauntlet of invisible obstacles and crouched behind a water fountain shaped like a hippopotamous throwing up. This is where we see Jay attempt to steal a book from the library without being detected. This scene is very iconic and for good reason.

It is one of the most famous scenes in all of literature and even includes some great dialogue. The scene starts out with Jay simply trying to reach his intended destination and get his book back. As he reaches the library he sees that there are many different ways to get inside and starts to think about the best way to get past security.

He thinks about breaking in but realizes that would be too risky so he decides to try sneaking in. When Jay reaches the library he sees numerous places he could try to sneak into but decides on the hippopotamus fountain. He knows that while it looks like a fountain, it actually shoots water at whoever tries to get into the library.

He figures that since nobody is looking at him nobody will notice him and can get his book back without detection. Jay approaches and then jumps over the fountain which does push water out at him, but only briefly and not hard enough to hurt him. Unfortunately, security was watching Jay from their surveillance cameras and realize what he has done and rush over to take him away.
